Nature knows mathematics! (or is it the other way around?)
Take a close look at the Queen Anne's Lace flower. The first thing that struck me was its pentagonal shape, but, on closer inspection, I saw the self-similarity so prevalent in Nature:

This flower was scanned, not photographed. That is, I just put the flower on my scanner and used a blue manila folder for the background. Not a bad result.
